Begging of the year I started to slowly make myself an 1840's ensemble (Corset, petticoats, combination) intending to make myself a nice day dress for wearing to events like Dickens. In a serendipitous moment I got assigned a school project to make a period ball gown; so I used it as an opportunity to go all out since I was getting a lot of support ( Read more... )

Tissot Dress

I've always loved Tissot's painting Too Early from 1873. And then one day I decided 'to hell with it, I'm going to make the pink dress'. And then mandie_rw wanted in and somehow a group formed that is making all the dresses in the painting. I'm about 80% done with the dress at this point. It still needs sleeves, some sort of bertha, skirt hooks, and a reticule, but it was totally wearable in time for Gaskells. Although it's not 100% finished, I'll mark this is complete for now since I won't have the time to keep working on this until next year and won't have a chance to wear it again ( Read more... )
